Kaspersky researchers have recently found a malware in an app called CamScanner, a popular phone-based PDF creator.
This module, Trojan-Dropper.AndroidOS.Necro.n, is technically a Trojan dropper, which means that the module extracts and runs another malicious module from an encrypted file included in the app’s resources. This “dropped” malware, in turn, is a Trojan Downloader that downloads more malicious modules depending on what its creators are up to at the moment.
Such malicious activities are common in a lot of Chinese smartphones.
CamScanner, being one of the most popular utility tool of thousands of people has been a big let down.
For those who need such service, we suggest you to use the Microsoft version of the app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.microsoft.office.officelens
